[Peace-discuss] Campus labor protest tomorrow Sept. 12

The UI Board of Trustees is holding its annual feel-good Urbana meeting tomorrow all day.  Campus labor unions will be scratching the record/CD again tomorrow Sept. 12 demanding such an outrageous thing as respect, and you are invited.

AFSCME is trying to negotiate for a new group of members they have, hardworking techs and other employees who haven't seen a raise in years.  But the University is stonewalling.  (UI negotiators recently decided to "take a break" from negotiations - for a few months! - presumably to make some sort of point.)

SEIU has a new group called "waiters" who are being paid $9.51 an hour and no tips.  The kicker is that when they were hired they were told they'd be making $12.48 and they'd be in the union.  The first day they were told, sorry, no union, and it's $9.51.  We had to fight to get them in the union, and now the University says any raises they agree to now WON'T APPLY TO NEW HIRES!?!

GEO is forced to fight for their tuition waivers AGAIN!  (Tuition being what it is, this is usually the biggest part of their compensation.)

And the faculty are fighting for the most basic right - to form a union - over stiff opposition from the Administration and its minions.

Time to get out the signs again!

1100 First Responders have died or have been diagnosed with cancer...
Millions have died in illegal wars since 9/11.
The newest ReThink911 poll say 46% of Americans are skeptical of official version of 9/11.
9/11 led to the Patriot Act, DHS, NDAA, NSA....
It was a heinous crime that can be re-investigated and the perpetrators will go to jail.
