Mort

In respect to NFN. I have been a participant on occasion but feel really uncomfortable doing so, because I lack the in depth intellect and ability to articulate that the usual three participants engage, that specifically makes this program woth watching due to its being "stimulating, worthwhile, and on the whole admirable". I'm not being modest, I hold my own when it comes to the bottom line. I support BDS and a one state solution, but you would not have the viewing enjoyment watching me attempt to debate David, Carl or Ron on the topic.

On Chomsky, I did note a bit of disappointment when an interviewer recently asked his opinion on "vegetarianism" and he responded with something to the effect that one makes choices about sacrifices etc., giving up ones car is a choice and a sacrifice etc. I was disappointed but realized that they didn't ask the question properly. They expected him to give a "collective answer" in respect to would vegetarianism end killing, the use of antibiotics in animals and the repercussions to humans, the elimination of methane into the atmosphere etc. he gave a personal choice answer.
They didn't phrase the question properly.

I suggest you attack them for the colour of their hair.

Regarding Carl and Leigh, congratulations for 50 years. And no doubt they all said it wouldn't last .

Hi Mort, Is that a qualified "yes"? Anyway, thanks for both the compliment and the critique. If you ask me which leaders/citizens are more responsible for the assault on Gaza, Israel or the U.S., my answer would be "yes". I think that Chomsky gave a decent accounting of himself yesterday on Z in responding to the critical responses to his article on BDS. I think that this is, unfortunately, a movement over a very long term, and more near the beginning than the end. I think he has some wise words that put things in evolutionary perspective, especially vis a vis S. Africa. But on tomorrow's show I'll take every opportunity to be disagreeable with my colleagues, even if I
have to resort to criticizing their wardrobes. Best, David

I’ve listened to this program, and come to the conclusion that you all, the three participants, agree with each other too much, as if everything that is said between you is unchallengeable. It is not. Especially annoying is the seeming worship of the god Chomsky,
who (I think) is losing his way on important issues, especially with regard to the desirable two state solution in Israel-Palestine. I would rather defer here to Ilan Pappe. Chomsky is doing a disservice to those trying, e.g., via BDS, to punish the Israelis
as long as they oppress the Palestinians. There is even the implication that BDS could only lead to a neoliberal result in »Palestine », as it has in S.A. There are other facets of the remarks that are less than clear or convincing, some bordering on boilerplate
in its repetitiousness, IMO. For example, as to who is wagging whose tail, U.S. or Israel; the issue is more complex than statements that the U.S. is more responsible for Israel’s actions than Israel itself, which borders on nonsense.

But withal, the program is stimulating, worthwhile, and on the whole admirable.
