Stuart, I agree with your premise, and empathize with your request.

It's interesting, however, that the AWARE list has become one of the few places if not the only place where you have intelligent leftist anti-war discourse. Unfortunately, it become an outlet for "the socialism of fools;" for those progressives who would like to distract our attention from our own responsibility for our foreign policy while focusing upon the peculiar attraction of anti-Semitism to some of those who genuinely oppose USFP; and for those who would like to prove to themselves that there is something nefarious about those who oppose USFP, especially vis a vis Israel. 

All of these distractions swirl around the peace list, because there is no place else for these current to flow in our local media. Some of those who post to this list don't want to think of themselves as being ordinary Fox News haters and liberal Zionist apologists. For whatever reason, they understand the mainstream media Fox/CNN echo chamber, and want to move beyond that. Unfortunately, they do so in not insightful and self-reflective ways.

I think that open expressions of hatred (those expressions that imply that the evil in the world can be traced to the essential or cultural nature of a racial, ethnic, or religious group) should be called out--including those that focus of "the Jews"--while conspiratorial speculation of a technical nature should be ignored by those without these peculiar fascinations. But I'm hoping that we can maintain the openness of the list, although I don't think you're considering an alternative in any event.
