Urge your state legislator to vote no on Senate Bill 649.

Act Now to Protect Our Health & Environment

Over the holiday weekend, Illinois state legislators introduced a bill that guts essential public health and environmental protections in the state's fracking standards. The Illinois General Assembly could vote on this new bill today.

Take action TODAY and urge your state legislators to vote no on SB 649!

ACTION ALERT
Stop the Attack on Illinois Fracking Standards
Dear Karen,
The Illinois Hydraulic Fracturing Regulatory Act is under attack.
Last spring both sides of the aisle came together to draft one of the most protective hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") laws in the country. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is developing rules to implement this law. But over the holiday weekend, state legislators introduced a bill that guts the law's essential public health and environmental protections. With the legislature adjourning this week, lawmakers are trying to jam Senate Bill 649 through at the last minute with no public input. This bill will silence the voices of more than 30,000 Illinoisans who submitted comments to the IDNR during their public comment process.
Contact your legislators today and ask them to protect the environment and public health and to respect the input of your fellow Illinois citizens by voting NO on SB 649.
This bad bill limits disclosure of fracking chemicals to health professionals, guts water pollution prevention language to allow toxic fracking fluid to be stored in open pits, and rescinds the public's right to request investigation of water pollution.
Recent advances in fracking technology have led to a rapid expansion of unconventional oil and gas development across our country. Communities throughout the nation need comprehensive and reliable scientific information about the impacts of fracking on local air and water quality, community health, safety, and overall quality of life.
Take action TODAY to protect Illinois' fracking law. Your legislators need to hear from you right away!

Sincerely,

LuCinda Hohmann
