Actually I feel that fascist in this context as a slur is more effective as a modifier in the adjective sense than as a noun.  The noun form is too abrupt and seems to lack completion .

"David, you, purulent fascist snot-monger...." ( for example ) has a better poetic rhythm and provokes more interest and is more potentially emotifying and carries more offensive stress than when fascist is a phrase  terminating noun.

So I dont find it as much ad hominem as just sort of half-assed as these things go.
