Community Responds to Abuses of Champaign Police Officer Matt Rush 

 

Citizens have learned about Champaign Police Officer Matt Rush who has had
numerous complaints filed against him and been involved in several
documented incidents involving excessive use of force on local residents.
Although fired by Police Chief Anthony Cobb, the police union fought his
dismissal. Officer Rush continues to be on active duty and is an immediate
threat to the community. Anyone could be a victim to his brand of "justice."


 

There will be a press conference by a coalition of local organizations
calling for Matt Rush to go, followed by a march to city council. 

 

Tuesday, December 15

5:30 p.m. - Press conference at Champaign Police Department (University and
First Street)

6:15 to 7 p.m. - March from police station to city council 

7:00 p.m. - Attend Champaign city council which will be asked to approve a
$225,000 settlement with Benjamin Mann who was brutally beaten by officer
Rush.
