Last night’s meeting of the AWARE group reading “Capital in the Twenty-First Century” was well-attended and lively.

David Green asserted that Piketty is a bit cavalier in his conflation of use-value and exchange-value in his conception of capital (= wealth).
David Johnson asserted that Piketty seems not to pay enough attention to the machinations of capitalists (aka the 1%) today.
A specter is haunting our European/American discussion - the specter of the OMBM (Old Man in the British Museum).

Members & friends of AWARE are invited to join the group. The next meeting is 6pm Wednesday 3 June at 5 Litchfield Lane in Champaign.

Reading for this week is the rest of "Part Two: The Dynamics of the Capital/Income Ratio": i.e.,
chapter 5 "The Capital/Income Ratio over the Long Run,” and chapter 6 "The Capital-Labor Split in the Twenty-First Century.”
Both chapters are more readable and less daunting than they sound.
