Karen,

Join Georgia Detention Watch in the call to shut down Stewart Detention Center! The #ShutDownStewart<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=qJeAU%2F4Sm7PEMfvgNakYyJsF6FsPB4vF> Coalition is honored to have the support of SOA Watch<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=FVaA0QX4Ywh5oNfrG%2Fmp6wG%2FmwdShiuw> again this year, drawing the connecting between US militarization in Latin America and immigrant detention/deportation in the U.S.! We are excited to announce our events<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=ko2%2FajRG%2BiiXgSwdLZqhUpsF6FsPB4vF> for the weekend, and are counting on people power within our movement to help mobilize for the convergence at Stewart Detention Center<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=FfLCj43G0gmbruRjX58lJpsF6FsPB4vF>! We are also calling on creative energy within the movement to engage in non-violent direct action<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=6hMQFn3gsWry93zwPIlJOZsF6FsPB4vF> as we call for the closure of the School of the Americas and Stewart Detention Center (more information below).

The vigil will begin with speakers and musicians at the Lumpkin town square. After a 1.7 mile procession, the vigil will conclude with directly impacted voices and musicians at the gate of Corrections Corporation of America's Stewart Detention Center, named one of the 10 worst immigration detention centers in the United States.

As those who attended in the past already know, Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia is about 45 minutes from the Columbus Convention Center, where important workshops<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=IDsOGftFt4r8ITKpppLY5psF6FsPB4vF>, trainings and film screenings will be held throughout the weekend. This year we are calling on SOA Watch movement to help in providing solidarity transportation to and from the vigil<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=9H83odFQv6Qqq%2F7t2464PJsF6FsPB4vF> at Stewart! This is a great opportunity for us to strengthen the movement by embracing one another through sharing our resources!

Can you offer a ride to the Vigil<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=yoVEQL7uLA9u1mBON3Wk0JsF6FsPB4vF>? Do you need a ride? Look no further!

Drivers<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=E95Q56Lu3fK7e3ZhAMKVbpsF6FsPB4vF><http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=MGl1s6T%2Bqk47M4f9jje2HZsF6FsPB4vF>: If you or your group will be driving from Columbus to Lumpkin and back and have extra seats in your vehicle, please sign up here<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=4ivUQH%2BTwqoDkn4txPmeFJsF6FsPB4vF> to offer seats to other attendees!

Drivers are asked to meet in the turn-about in front of the Columbus Convention & Trade Center (801 Front Ave, Columbus, GA 31901) between 7:30am - 7:45am on the morning of Saturday, November 21. There, you will wait for fellow activists to fill up open seats in your vehicle. Once your vehicle is full, you may leave for Lumpkin town square (For GPS use 290 Main Street, Lumpkin, GA 31815). You are free to utilize street parking anywhere in downtown Lumpkin. After the vigil, we ask that you provide a return trip to anyone who you brought (unless of course they have been arrested for engaging in non-violent civil disobedience!)

Riders<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=w8uHdMY463UkP5GVLTjtlQG%2FmwdShiuw><http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=%2FUtfL%2F4i5uoEqX1fcfM82JsF6FsPB4vF>: If you are seeking transportation from Columbus to Lumpkin and back, please let us know by filling out this<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=r5XDykBo73iMQaUu2LbH%2FpsF6FsPB4vF> form. Riders are asked to meet in the turn-about in front of the Columbus Trade & Convention Center (801 Front Ave, Columbus GA 31901) between 7:30am - 7:45am on Saturday, November 21. Note: this is NOT a guarantee that you will receive a ride; it will help us determine how many participants are seeking transportation.

Workshops on Non-violent Direct Action<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=EMNAv%2BwueWhY%2FinOBAks9JsF6FsPB4vF> & Stewart Detention Center<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=Gp04vyg9x9KC%2BGXxDu3%2FpJsF6FsPB4vF>

Creative non-violent direct action and civil disobedience have been some of the most important strategies within the movement to shut down the SOA/WHINSEC and Stewart Detention Center. Following this tradition, SOA Watch activists will be planning various kinds of non-violent direct action at both vigils this year to continue to up the ante to continue to call attention to the crimes associated with both these nefarious institutions.

Why We Must #ShutDownStewart Workshop <http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=DdEUC%2F4lPIq6W5vQ5ymZyZsF6FsPB4vF>
Organizers from Georgia Detention Watch, Georgia Peace & Justice Coalition, and the #ShutDownStewart movement, will conduct a detailed workshop on the human rights violations taking place at Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, GA. For years, SOA Watch has understood that the root causes of the immigration crisis in the US include economic exploitation and military intervention in Latin America and other parts of the world. During this workshop, presenters will examine these causes with a specific focus on the intersections of racism, militarism, and mass incarceration that are embodied at Stewart and other detention centers throughout the US.
