[Peace-discuss] NYTimes.com: Happy Birthday, Karl Marx. You Were Right!

Interesting & informed, in spite of the weird identity-politics turn at the end: identity politics is the craven rejection of the class politics Marx thought and talked about.

Marx meant to analyze capitalism (not socialism) in the (hidden) process of class struggles: “the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles".

Capitalism today has altered in two centuries, and Marx’ texts should not be used as Luther used the Letter to the Romans, as a source of timeless truths.

But we probably can say of communism what Chesterton said of the Christian ideal - it "has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult; and left untried.”

To pursue the matter, I’d suggest the following: <https://www.amazon.com/Why-Marx-Right-Terry-Eagleton-ebook/dp/B07B52PT32/ref=sr_1_1 <https://www.amazon.com/Why-Marx-Right-Terry-Eagleton-ebook/dp/B07B52PT32/ref=sr_1_1>>. —CGE
