>Kate Sorensen, a union organizer and activist with ACT UP, Philadelphia
>will make a presentation and lead a discussion on how citizens can
>successfully organize against a war. Kate is a proponent of non-violent
>direct action and has been involved in several movements that have led to
>local and international social change through groups such as ACT UP, Queer
>Nation, and Philadelphia Direct Action Group. Kate is also involved in the
>budding anti-globalization movement. A signifgant shift in the climate of
>the struggle for social change has been marked by Kate's arrest during the
>Republican National Convention when Kate was accused of being the "Ring
>Leader" of the demonstration opposing the RNC. She was given 20 charges
>including ten felonies and was placed on one million dollars bail. She and
>the 400 other defendants of the RNC demonstration "crack down" have been
