Acclaimed slam poet Staceyann Chin will be in-residence at Unit One/Allen
Hall, October 28 - November 1. Staceyann Chin is a performance poet and
staunch disciple of the spoken word movement. She has performed for
"Showtime at the Apollo," and high schools, universities, and coffeehouses
across the country and internationally. She was the winner of the 1999
Chicago People of Color Slam, first runner-up in the 1999 Outright Poetry
Slam, winner of the 1998 Lambda Poetry Slam, a finalist in the 1999
Nuyorican grand slam, winner of the 1998 and the 2000 Slam This!, and
Winner of WORD: Slam for Television. Her work has also been featured on "60
Minutes" and in the New York Times.

Staceyann Chin's opening program: "Using Performance Art as a Political
Tool" will be on Monday, Octoer 29 at 8pm in the South Rec Room of Allen
Hall, 1005 W. Gregory, Urbana. She will be leading discussions and workshops
every evening of her residency. Her schedule for the week will be available
