As we mobilize against an impending war, we need to develop
visions for alternate responses to the attacks. Below is my father's
contribution. It is a response to my extended family's support of the
war.

Subject: RE: PLEASE VOTE AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO VOTE for war!

The problem is that terrorists reside all over the world in more than 60
countries, including the U.S. Blowing up Afganistan and killing bin Laden
with or without a fair trial is not going to stop terrorism. It will
alienate more people from us and result in more attacks around the world,
including in the U.S. We are just using bin Laden as a scapegoat. I am
afraid that our current strategy may lead to a world war that will not be
won my military might and conventional weapons.

My proposed solution includes capturing and bringing to trial those tied
directly to this recent act and bin Laden and other responsibile for
previous acts of terror throughout the world, not just those who are a
threat to the U.S. We should provide help to those victims of terrorism in
countries throughout the world, including Afganistan, Africa, Latin America,
not just those places where we have a self interest or perceived cause for
revenge. We should tighten our security in vulnerable places like
government buildings, sports stadiums, airlines, water supplies, food
supplies, etc. We should beef up our inteligence and intercept major
organized groups planning terrorist acts before they happen, by
infiltration, monitoring of financial transactions, etc.

I have more to say to those who are interested.

Love,
DAVE CHYNOWETH
