BEARS FANS CONSIDER NUCLEAR WAR

Last Friday, Bear's fans lit up Kirby avenue with their orange and blue
wear. In their slow moving caravan, every nose was pointed towards the
stadium. On one corner of Kirby and State a little girl jumped up and
down hawking bratwerst. On the other 3 corners, 25 people, some dressed
as referees, poked their heads into the slowed vehicles to discuss the
impending U.S. war against Iraq.

Kimberlie Kranich of the Anti-War Anti-Racism Effort held a sign "Do you
want the U.S. to use nuclear weapons in your name" and called out for
responses. Some folks shouted "yes, nuke 'em!" but for many the question
gave them pause and after such pause, they shook their heads no. No to
nuclear weapons. No, not in my name. For these respondants, Kimberlie
added "Well the Pentagon is seriously talking about using nuclear weapons
against Iraq - please contact your congresspeople." She then handed them
a flier with citations from the Nuclear Review and elsewhere
substantiating her claim. The flier also had Congressional contacts. The
25 demonstrators passed out all their 150 fliers within an hour. "Next
time I'll make 500" Kimberlie said.

The Anti-war group is planning on demonstrating at the next Bear's home
games September 8 and 22. They will be planning their demos at their
regular meetings Sundays 5-7 PM at the IMC 218 West Main Street.
