Media activists, airshifters, pacifists,

Tomorrow night at 7pm, the Independent Media Center, in collaboration with
WILL-TV, will present a pre-broadcast screening of "The Good War and Those
Who Refused to Fight It" with introductory remarks by WILL's program
director, David Thiel.

The evening is an excellent opportunity to learn about the more than 30,000
conscientious objectors to WW II and to ask programming questions of David
Thiel.

David plans to describe what the documentary is about, why WILL would choose
to air it at this time, WILL's attitude toward independent documentaries and
examples of upcoming documentaries in WILL's programming schedule.

Here's a brief synopsis of the one-hour documentary:

"The Good War and Those Who Refused to Fight It" is the dramatic story of
conscientious objectors (COs) who refused to fight in World War II. As
noncombatant medics under fire, medical guinea pigs, fire fighters,
attendants in mental institutions and workers in Civilian Public Service
camps, 37,000 COs performed alternative service during the war. Seven
thousand war resisters spent those years in prison and used hunger strikes
to racially integrate the federal prison system. Their experiences prepared
a generation of nonviolent activists to change American society in ways that
we are only now beginning to appreciate."

The screening is at 7pm Tuesday, January 8th at the IMC, 218 W. Main Street,
Urbana.

For those who can't make the screening, WILL-TV will broadcast the program
at 9pm January 15th. David Thiel may be reached at 333-1070.
