Hi Parade Committee--

Why do I think the Ch Co Freedom Celebration Committee would be happy to disqualify AWARE's (anti-establishment) parade entry???

Here are the rules that pertain to AWARE--Susan Parenti has hard copy of their list of 12 rules, and also of the application I submitted. (Rules also @ www.july4th.net)

"The committee reserves the right to remove any entrant or person who does not comply w/ the following rules:"

1. Throwing and/or distributing any items along the parade route is strictly prohibited. This includes (but is not limited to) candy, brochures, key chains, etc.
2. Children under the age of 12 are not allowed to walk or rollerblade along the parade route. The only exception is if a decorated vehicle large enough to accommodate all such children is part of the entry. In such case, the children must remain w/ the entry @ all times.
3. The theme of this year's parade is, "A Free Press, A Free People" ALL ENTRIES MUST DEPICT THIS THEME IN SOME WAY. (They underlined this; I used caps)
4. All vehicles and floats must be decorated. Max ht is 13'
5. All floats and entries must be constructed of fire-retardant materials and be equipped w/ @ least one (1) fire extinguisher. A formal fire extinguisher check will be conducted prior to the start of the parade.
11. Parade Marshalls have the authority to remove any entrant from the parade for failure to comply w/ these rules, inclusive under the direction of the Parade Chair.

"With added security measures and CHANGES IN THE PARADE ROUTE, attendance @ the informational meeting on Tuesday, June 18th, 2002 @ 630 pm @ the Urbana Civic Center is MANDATORY. You must attend to obtain number in lineup/map of parade staging area....."

I will attend this mtg--hope others will join me. Any questions can be directed to Parade Chair, Cathy McArthur 369-4622 or 337-0968 or csmcarthur at yahoo.com

Thanks,
Jenifer C.
