[Prof. Mobin Shorish is an emeritus professor at the
Department of 
Educational Policy Studies, College of
Education, UIUC.  He has Ph.D. in Education and Social
Order from the 
University of Chicago, and M.A. and
B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan.

Prof. Shorish has taught courses in Comparative
Education; Economics 
of Education; 20th Century
Political Thoughts and Movements in Islam; and
Education in 
Developing Countries.

Prof. Shorish has worked on a number of research
projects in various 
regions of the world including
Afghanistan, South Asia, Central Asian Republics,
China, and Japan. 
One of the areas of his research
has been the role of the madrassahs (traditional
Islamic schools)in 
Islamic learning and citizenry.
