University of Illinois Board of Trustees Meeting Public Comment Session

For more than a decade, the UI Board of Trustees has refused to even
propose- much less vote upon- a resolution to eliminate "Chief
Illiniwek". On November 13 and 14, 2002, the BOT will be visiting this
campus for the only time this semester. This will be the time to make
our voices heard and demand a resolution!

In preparation of the BOT's coming, the Progressive Resource/Action
Cooperative and its allies will be holding a campus and community forum,
during which we will draft a resolution to completely eliminate the use
of the "Chief" mascot in all its forms. When the BOT hold their public
comment session on November 14, we will deliver this resolution to them
and demand that they vote upon it.

The forum on the 12th will be your opportunity to contribute to the
drafting of this resolution. The PRC wants and needs your strategic
input on how to ensure the passage of this resolution! We want to work
with you and pool our collective resources, talents, and energy, in
order to ensure the success of this action. This will be our most
important action of the year, and our best opportunity to eliminate the
Chief- so let's make it count.

We hope that all anti-"Chief" supporters can attend the BOT Meeting on
Thursday morning.  The presence of all the students, faculty, and
community members who oppose the continued use of a racist mascot is
necessary to show the Board they cannot ignore this issue any longer.
Join us as we demand a vote to eliminate "Chief Illiniwek" as the mascot
and symbol of the UI.
