Hello supporters of the Public i,
Every month when we put out a new edition of the paper we just keep thinking
"this is the best yet". Although I'm prejudice, I do think we can pat
ourselves on the back for helping to bring the progressive voice to 5000
readers in the C-U area every month for more than 2 years. BUT NOW WE NEED
YOUR YOUR HELP.

We have a little glitch in that our layout person, the very capable Darrin
Drda took a full time gig with "The Paper" -- a new alternative weekly that
will soon be sprouting up. We are thrilled with the possibility that "The
Paper" is going to add to the diversity of voices, thrilled with the fact
that it will have the visual mastery of Darrin contributing to it, but stuck
with reality that we need to have help with the Public i in order to keep
producing it.

Here are some ways you could help--
--Do you know "Quark" (or some other similar program) and would be willing
to make a commitment for 10 or more hours toward the end of the month to
help with layout?

-- Do you respond to things visually and would be willing to be our "visual
coordinator" - gathering photos from the web, asking for and coordinating
illustrations from local authors, getting photos from various sources? This
job could probably be done in about 5 hours month. Attendance at our weekly
meeting (Thursday 5:15 - 6:45) would be helpful.

--Could you contribute financially? Our sustaining contributor amount -- if
you would like to be listed in the paper is $240 annually. We need to buy a
computer for the IMC in order to keep producing the paper, as our old imac
is beyond it's last leg. We accept any donations. Checks payable to the IMC
(tax deductible). Mail to me at S. Ahten, 1408 S. Vine, U IL 61801

--We need a proofreaders (2-4 hours at the end of the month) and a
proofreading coordinator. (To make sure that several people get to use the
red pen before it goes to the printer). Attendence at meetings would be
suggested for the coordinator -- but not neccary for the proofreaders.

--As always, suggest your story ideas for publication to
imc-print at ucimc.org.

Marching on,
Sandra Ahten
