"In Shifting Sands: The Truth About UNSCOM and the Disarming of Iraq"

Directed by former Chief UN Weapons Inspector, Scott Ritter, the film
tells the story of the UN weapons inspections in Iraq in the 90s, and why
they failed to resolve the conflict over weapons of mass destruction,
which continues to be used to justify America's aggressive posture towards
Iraq. Ritter, a former Marine, describes how the inspections were
undermined both by the Iraqi government and the unilateral policies of the
U.S., and his conclusions call into question the validity of current U.S.
policy toward Iraq. "In Shifting Sands" features interviews with Rolf
Ekeus, former head of UNSCOM, and Tariq Aziz, Deputy Prime Minister of
Iraq.

The screening will be followed by a discussion facilitated by Roaa
al-Heeti, member of the Muslim Student Association. Admission is free,
but donations are encouraged. The IDF is located at the corner of Wright

The Illinois Disciples Foundation is a peace with justice campus ministry,
dedicated to a mission of denouncing violence, working for justice and
compassion, speaking truth to power, and standing in solidarity with those

The Human Right Film Series is an exciting and new feature in IDF
programming. Thursday evenings in March and April we will be showing
documentaries on human rights issues, followed by group discussions
facilitated by local community members. "In Shifting Sands" will be the
first film in this new series, to be followed by "The Dirty War" on March
13th, "The Men in the Trees" on April 3rd, "Cover Up:  Behind the
Iran-Contra Scandal” on April 10th, and the "Panama Deception" on April
17th.

The Human Right Film Series at the IDF is co-sponsored by African American
Cultural Program, Amnesty International (UIUC Chapter), AWARE,
Channing-Murray Foundation, CGFC, El Centro por los Trabajadores, GEO,
UC-IMC, La Casa, McKinley Foundation, PRC, St. Jude Catholic Worker House,
South Asian Collective, University YMCA, Vietnam Veterans Against the War
