Subject: Peace Action: Lies, Lies, Lies

Action Alert
Lies, Lies, Lies
It's now clear that the President's State of the Union claim ("the British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa") was complete fiction, and top administration officials knew it. Allegations that Saddam was in league with al-Qaida have also proved to be pure rubbish. Many of us knew that the administration's claims about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and ties to al-Qaida were dubious. As the administration's deception becomes increasingly clear, it is becoming obvious to many more Americans that the President (and key members of his cabinet) lied about nuclear weapons program in Iraq - a lie that persuaded many members of Congress to support the war. These lies represent a pattern of deceit and stonewalling on the part of the administration that must now be addressed by Congress.

Call for Full Disclosure

Both Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D-CA) have introduced legislation that aims to investigate the administration's manipulation of intelligence in regard to Iraq. Contact your Senators and Representative and urge them to push for an independent investigation into whether the administration misled the public by claiming that Iraq was an imminent threat to the US and its neighbors.

Call your members of Congress through the Capitol switchboard: (800) 839-5276.

Urge your members of Congress to support an investigation that is open, thorough, timely, and has a broad mandate. The American people deserve the truth. We also deserve a foreign policy that will make our country more secure - one based on human rights and democracy, disarmament, and international cooperation. Please urge your members of Congress to sign on to Peace Action's Pledge for a New Foreign Policy.

Thank you!
To those of you who signed the Petition for a New Foreign Policy, urging the presidential candidates to support human rights and democracy, disarmament, and international cooperation. Thanks to your efforts we've opened new doors with some presidential campaigns and will work to build more support for a more responsible foreign policy.
