WEFTies, IMCers, and members of AWARE,
On Monday, August 4 from 6-8pm, WEFT will broadcast a live recording from
the Pacifica Archives of the new radio adaptation of John Hersey's
*Hiroshima* the most famous work of the Pulitzer Prize winning novelist and
reporter. An account of the bombing of Hiroshima
in 1945, told from the perspective of six survivors, is written in a stark,
objective voice that manages to be precise and all the more vivid for its
understatement of events. A profoundly influential work that has long since
been established as one of the classic accounts of the Second World War.
Thanks to Randall Cotton for hosting the first hour of the program and
Walter Matherly for hosting the second. To Walter and Juliet Youngren for
allowing this special program to pre-empt their "C-U Radio Theater" show and
to Stan Wasserman, Maggie Hoop and Patrick Bahls for recording the program
off satellite.
Kimberlie
