>Abstract: Understanding Kashmir Conflict
>
>South Asia is not only politically instable, economically fragile and
>militarily conflict-prone region but also falling rapidly into ecological
>disaster. India and Pakistan have a long history of fighting over river
>waters originating from Kashmir territory. Particularly, with the
>nuclearisation of South Asia Kashmir has become a potential nuclear flash
>point and looming water scarcity may trigger another war over Kashmir. Why
>India and Pakistan are fighting over Kashmir since their inception as
>independent states is still not clear. The nature of the Kashmir dispute
>has been projected differently and there are various connotations and
>viewpoints. The common perception is that even if Kashmir is resolved
>there would be no peace between India and Pakistan. This is the central
>question of this study:
> * Is Kashmir a border issue?
> * Is Kashmir a political issue?
> * Is Kashmir an ideological issue?
> * Is Kashmir a territorial issue?
>· Why Kashmir’s territory is so dear to India &Pakistan?
>
>Answer to the above questions is mandatory to discover the nature of the
>Kashmir issue.
