: CARLOS EUCEDA'S VISIT TO CHAMPAIGN-URBANA
: -----------------------------------------
:
: Carlos Euceda has been an activist for many
: years in Honduras. (For more details, see
: below.) We invite your participation
: in these upcoming events:
:
: --------------------------------------------
:
: There will be a Spanish language reception for
: Mr. Euceda on Sunday, Jan. 25 at Channing-Murray
: Foundation at 4 p.m., to provide an opportunity
: for people to get to know him and to schedule
: more in-depth meetings during the roughly one
: week that he will be in town.
:
: ----------------------------------------------
:
: "Central America's Struggle for Human Rights:
: Stories Our Media Would Rather Not Tell"
:
: Carlos Euceda of the Confederation of
: Aboriginal and Black People of Honduras
: (CONPAH)
:
: The people most adversely affected by the
: proposed Free Trade Area of the Americas are
: the indigenous people. Through his work with
: CONPAH, Mr. Euceda has worked as advocate for
: the eight indigenous and black groups of
: Honduras in their increasingly desperate
: and deadly struggles to preserve their
: livelihoods, languages and cultures. He
: will tell about the rise of awareness and
: grassroots efforts that have developed in
: Honduras.
:
: He has a strong interest in using radio
: stations to help maintain the peoples' way
: of life. In addition to CONPAH, Mr. Euceda
: has worked with a women's advocacy
: organization and has facilitated Pastors
: for Peace caravans to Honduras.
:
: Channing - Murray Foundation
: Oregon and Matthews Streets
: Urbana
: 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004
:
: The talk will be given in Spanish with
: English translation.
:
: There will be an opportunity to talk
: informally with Mr. Euceda after his
: presentation.
:
: This event is sponsored by:
: The Channing-Murray Foundation and
: The Primary Communications Project
:
: --------------------------------------------
:
: Mr. Euceda is very interested in low power radio
: and strengthening ties between American and
: Central American social movements so anyone who
: is into these issues could talk one-on-one or in
: a small group. We can provide translation if
: needed.
:
: If people would be interested in helping
: with room and board and translation or
: in other ways, or for more information, please
: contact:
