WHAT: Local Solutions to Global Problems: Economic, Cultural and
Social Rights. A free, two-day human
rights conference covering local, national, and international issues
such as healthcare, labor rights, education, and globalization will
be hosted by the local Amnesty International chapter.

WHERE: The University YMCA at the corner of Wright and Chalmers in
Champaign

WHEN: March 6 (9:00-4:30) and 7 (10:00-3:00) Free lunch for the
first 100 to register on Saturday.

Saturday, March 6

9-10 Registration and breakfast, Murphy Lounge

10-10:30 Welcome and Intro by Local Amnesty International chapter
members

10:30-11:30 Keynote address: "The Nature and Importance of Economic
and Social Rights" by Belden Fields

11:30-12 How globalization affects indigenous populations- and why
that matters to you and me by Paul Hixson

12-1 Women's Weaving Cooperative in Chiapas, Mexico with Celerina
Ruiz Nunez and President, Jolom Mayaetik

1-2 Lunch (free to first 100 who register)

2-3:30 Women's Rights Workshop by Molly Gena of Amnesty International

3:30-4:30 Human Rights in Venezuela by Mark Weisbrot of the Center

All events will take place in Latzer Hall unless otherwise noted

There will be display tables in Murphy Lounge throughout both days
