Well, after over 7 months of efforts to get Democracy Now! broadcasts going
on UPTV, we may be about one week away from finally succeeding.

Even after 4 separate meetings with UPTV Commission members (who voted
unanimously in favor of supporting Democracy Now! after a strong public
showing of support and over 1200 petition signatures), Urbana mayor Tod
Satterthwaite continues his censorship of Democracy Now!, obstructing it
from being broadcast on UPTV. Among other things, he continues to balk at
signing the paperwork required for acquiring the equipment and programming.

But after some lobbying of City Council members, an agenda item for
Democracy Now! is expected for the November 22nd Urbana City Council
meeting. They may vote on a resolution ordering UPTV to acquire and install
the necessary satellite equipment and begin broadcasts of Democracy Now!,
essentially bypassing the mayor.

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR 7:30PM, MONDAY, NOVEMBER 22nd and attend this
meeting of the Urbana City Council (in the council chambers - ground floor,
400 S. Vine St. Urbana). Please attend to ensure that the City Council holds
no illusions about the substantial public support for this programming and
to encourage them to act decisively to counter the mayor's censorship of
Democracy Now!.

More information and announcements are forthcoming in the days ahead leading
up to the 22nd.

Stay tuned...
