Dear AWARE members, Champaign-Urbana communities, and
students,
I am trying to launch a working group along with Susan
Davis devoted specifically to fighting the growth of
militaristic propaganda in our own backyards aimed at trying
to get our students to fight the "War on Terror". Times are
desperate in Iraq for the Pentagon and the U.S. military as
casualties mount, resistance stiffens, destruction of
civilian lives and Iraqi homes intensifies, and now the
heated exchange of threats from the U.S.-Israel axis leveled
at Tehran that threaten to escalate war in the Middle East if
the fascist neocons have their way. Clearly, with the stop
loss orders increasing and the number of reserves and
National Guardsmen now totalling just a touch under half of
the forces in Iraq; the stage is set for a looming personnel
crisis. So, the military recruiters are becoming more
aggressive and they are increasing their advertising (or
lying) to kids about career advancement through the
military. Worse yet, a draft may be underway soon if things
worsen in the Middle East or Bush decides to launch another
loony war. So, we must organize now across the campus and
the local community to oppose the expansion of the war here
at home. Susan and I would like to gauge interest of people
in various activities regarding militarization. I would love
to solicit the help of people at the Law School and other
student organizations on campus. I would love to run a booth
out in front of the Union discussing the military and inform
people to watch out for recruiters and begin thinking of
their options to avoid this meatgrinder of a war in the event
of conscription. Next week, I will bring a draft of a letter
to Francis Boyle at the Law School to solicit his help in
this regard, as he may also be helpful in giving us knowledge
of Selective Service law. I would be interested to hear what
people think of this... Please let me know by e-mailing me
at ndahlhei at uiuc.edu or calling me at home at (217) 255-6415
or at my cell at (630) 476-0803.
                           Nick Dahlheim

P.S. 9-11 coverup is still an important issue as the
official story has many problems. If Bush-Cheney and the
neocon cabal can steal an election, conduct secret meetings
with energy conglomerates without informing
citizens/consumers, pass draconian legislation destroying
precious civil liberties, and start two wars against
Afghanistan and Iraq for oil, drugs, and dollar hegemony with
lies and/or fabricated evidence; why wouldn't they lie about
the catalyst for this "War on Terror", 9/11?
