Subject: ACTION ALERT: Clinton nuclear power plant
ACTION ALERT!
The proposal to build a second nuclear power plant at
Clinton Lake, some 20 miles south of
Bloomington-Normal, is moving forward rapidly.
Concerns over both permitted and unexpected
radioactive emissions, nuclear waste transport (which
will use the interstates around
Bloomington-Normal), and taxpayer subsidies of this
highly polluting and unsustainable energy source
should get everyone's attention.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is holding a
hearing in Clinton, IL, Tuesday, April 19, 7 p.m. at
Warner Vespasian Public Library (directions at:
www.warner.lib.il.us/where.htm). To speak, one must
register 15 minutes before the meeting begins or
register
on-line by emailing ClintonEIS at nrc.gov. Even if you
don't want to speak, there needs to be a good showing
of citizen interest. You can also submit written
comments to them then.
The NRC is accepting comments on-line on the draft
environmental impact document until May 25, 2005 by
emailing: ClintonEIS at nrc.gov
You can read the draft environmental impact document
as follows:
1. go to this website:
http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html
2. click on "Web-based access"
3. click on "Begin ADAMS Search"
4. in search box, enter: NUREG-1815
