[This guy resigned from the Foreign Service just before the
invasion of Iraq, because (as he said in his letter to Colin
Powell), "The policies we are now asked to advance are
incompatible not only with American values but also with
American interests."  It remains to be seen whether he regards 
the war as a crime -- or only as a mistake, like those other
resigned apparatchiks, Rand Beers and Richard Clarke.  --CGE]


John Brady Kiesling, independent scholar and U.S. Foreign
Service/State Department Official, 1983-2003 will give a
CAS/MillerComm lecture entitled "The War in Iraq: U.S. Foreign
Policy and the Crisis of International Legitimacy."  The
lecture will be given on Thursday, September 22, 2005 at 7:30
p.m. on the Third Floor, Levis Faculty Center, 919 West
Illinois Street, Urbana.  All CAS/MillerComm events are free
