COMMON GROUND FOOD CO-OP "REVIVAL" PARTY

Saturday, March 31 6pm to midnight, University YMCA

Champaign-Urbana's first and only retail food co-operative, Common Ground,
kicks off its efforts to increase membership and co-op awareness in C-U this
Saturday, March 31, 2007.

A party introducing the co-op's goals to expand their membership and move to
a new glass-front retail space in the fall of 2008 will be held at the
University YMCA starting at 6 p.m. that evening. The event, featuring live
music by Big Grove Zydeco, Moto Rhythm Success, and folk songwriter Paul
Kotheimer, is open to the public. Donations will be welcome for the co-op's
relocation efforts at the membership table inside the event.

Common Ground Food Co-op (CGFC) is Champaign-Urbana's longest-standing
retail food cooperative. CGFC prides itself on its produce section, which
features a wide variety fruits and vegetables from growers in and near the
Champaign-Urbana area all week long, especially during the growing season.
Common Ground also carries locally-sourced grains, dairy products, maple
syrup, and honey, and breads from a small, family-operated bakery. In
addition, CGFC boasts a wide selection of non-local organic packaged foods,
bulk foods, pet foods, personal care products, cleaning products, herbs,
coffees, and teas.

"Common Ground Food Cooperative has always been a co-op for members, and
will remain so – our membership is extremely important to us," said CGFC
General Manager Jacqueline Hannah. "Our membership is open to all and it is
easy to become a member. Once you are a member you can walk into the co-op
like you own the place - because you do! Common Ground has been community
owned since 1978 and always will be. Its a great way to invest in your
community and to support local food production." Membership costs $30 for an
individual and $50 for a family. Member benefits include special shopping
days, the ability to volunteer in the store via the member worker program,
and the ability to participate in the store's governance.

Common Ground has existed as a members-only food cooperative since 1978, and
has been located near the University of Illinois campus in the Illinois
Disciples' Foundation Building for most of its history. Current trends,
including recent nationwide emphases on organic foods and locally-produced
or grown products, were some of the factors in Common Ground's decision to
move in 2008 to a new location where they will be accessible and visible to
the public.

For more information about the grand opening or Common Ground's merchandise,
call the store at 352-3347, or visit the website at
