[An anti-racism event: a presentation of research being done with the Champaign School and collaborative community-based intervention. -karen medina]:

Speaker: Dr. Mark Aber, Associate Professor, Department of Psychology, Clinical/Community Division, UIUC
When: 4th November, Sunday, 4:00pm.
Where: Lounge, AACC (Asian American Cultural Center, 1210 W Nevada St, Urbana)
Abstract: His work involves collaborative community-based intervention, community organization and development, contextual influences on individuals' understanding of race, racial equity in public schooling, school racial climate. One of his current projects examines collaborative community-based intervention focuses on efforts to promote educational
equity in public schooling in the Champaign school district. He uses participatory action research methods which aim to include members of a target community, population or group in the identification of problems, collection of data, and analysis of their own situation in order to improve
it. This approach aims to contribute to basic knowledge about community dynamics while generating data and engaging in a research process that contributes to solving practical problems in the lives and communities of the target group.
