Dear Friend of Justice,

Most of you are familiar with local African American activist
Patrick Thompson's struggle to receive a fair and impartial trial in
Champaign/Urbana. It is difficult to believe that Patrick is about
to begin his third trial on charges of home invasion and sexual abuse
for which there is no witness or evidence; charges many believe to be
retribution for videotaping Champaign police stops.

This time attorneys Bob Kirchner and Ruth Wyman are defending
Patrick in court. Unfortunately, since the previous trial several
key witnesses have moved and changed addresses. To testify on behalf
of the defense, an investigator must be hired to locate them to
enable them to be served with subpoenas. Bob and Ruth estimate this
to cost between $750 - $1000. This additional expense has become
crucial to providing a successful defense.

Therefore we are asking for your help. If you are able contribute
$20 or more to help cover these investigatory costs, it would be much
appreciated by Patrick and his family who are experiencing continuing
financial strain because of recurring trial costs the past two and
half years. Urgency is of the utmost importance since the trial is
scheduled to begin early next week. Please consider helping by
writing a check to: "CU Citizens for Peace and Justice" and
designate it for: "Patrick Thompson Defense".

Mail your contribution to:

Champaign Urbana Citizens for Peace and Justice

Your quick response and commitment to justice in Champaign County
are greatly appreciated. A contribution of any amount could make the
difference in Patrick's defense!

On behalf of CU Citizens for Peace and Justice,
Durl Kruse
Treasurer
