For folks who might be up in Chicago for these showing dates, of for folks who want to go up just to see this film.

Midwest Coalition for Human Rights Members -
There is a new documentary film premiering in Chicago tomorrow about the erosion of civil liberties post 9/11. It addresses a number of issues, including torture and secret prisons, the deployment of a paramilitary force, the development of an internal surveillance system, the harassment of citizens’ groups, and the arbitrary detention of ordinary civilians.
The film is called The End of America (http://www.endofamericamovie.com/), and it is based on the book by Naomi Wolf. It will be playing at Facets Cinema (1517 W. Fullerton Ave) and will run until December 21. There will be a panel discussion and Q&A with various advocates during this weekend's premiere, including the ACLU and Democracy for Chicago, but more sessions for next week are currently being planned. Information on the screenings, including show times, is included in the press release below or could be found on Facets' website - http://www.facets.org/asticat?function=web&catname=facets&web=cinematheque&path=/archive/dec2008/endofamerica.
For those of you who are interested in checking out the film, but are not in Chicago, the website also has information about ordering a DVD or hosting a screening in your area.

**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**

END OF AMERICA @ FACETS CINEMATHEQUE 12/12/08-12/21/08

*CHICAGO PREMIERE!*

*ONE WEEK ONLY!*

*THE END OF AMERICA*

Along with the rest of America, best-selling author and feminist Naomi Wolf (The Beauty Myth) was overwhelmed by the swell of conflicting information and the sudden march to war after 9/11. Wolf looked to history to help her understand the dramatic changes she believed she was witnessing, and discovered the disturbing similarities between post-9/11 US policy and that of historically fascist regimes such as Mussolini's Italy and Hitler's Germany. Wolf authored her book, "The End of America", which demonstrated that the United States was on a remarkably certain path toward ending democracy. Taking the thesis of her book to the streets, Wolf set out on a national tour to discuss the evolution of America from a functional democracy into a closed, fear-driven society with a terrifying absence of due process. In this profound and eye-opening film, Award-winning veteran documentarians Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg (The Devil Came on Horseback, The Trials of
Darryl Hunt) accompany Wolf as she discusses America's dangerous passage towards becoming a society of fear and surveillance, and expresses her plea to restore our nation's most cherished values.

Directed by Annie Sundberg and Ricki Stern, U.S.A., BetaSP, 75 mins.
