SPECIAL TOWNSHIP MEETING

MONDAY, JUNE 30, 2008

6:00 PM, URBANA CITY HALL

YOUR SUPPORT AND PRESENCE IS URGENTLY NEEDED!

If you live in Urbana, you have the opportunity to help place the
following two non-binding advisory referenda on the November 4th
election ballot:

1. "Shall the Urbana City Council place a binding referendum on the
ballot asking voters if they want to change the voting method used in
municipal primary and general elections to Instant Runoff Voting?”

(1) Instant Runoff Voting allows voters to rank order candidates as
to their preference, 1st choice, 2nd choice, etc.

(2) Once the vote is counted, if no candidate has received at least
50% of the vote an electronic runoff is initiated.

(3) The candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated and the
second choice votes on those ballots are then counted.

      (4) This process continues until one of the candidates
receives at least 50% of the votes cast.
2. “Shall Cunningham Township and the City of Urbana post all
contracts and itemized expenses on their websites so that taxpayers
can see how their money is being spent?”

This is an extremely important meeting for Urbana and Township
residents! Citizens such as yourself, NOT elected officials or local
power brokers, have the rare opportunity and legal right to place
these two referenda questions on the ballot. But for this to happen,
people need to support this effort and attend the Special Township
Meeting.

For months Urbana Citizens for IRV and many other local citizens have
been attempting to place advisory referenda of local concern on the
ballot only to be repeatedly rebuffed and blocked by a small select
group of local political leaders who apparently fear losing their
tight grip and control of local government.

Government is supposed to be by the people and for the people, so
please consider taking an hour of your time to lend your support to
this effort. Only through the collective effort of many will this
effort be successful. Let's revive grassroots participatory
democracy in our community. Let your voice be heard and your vote be
counted!

Spread the word. Bring a friend. Come to the Township meeting on
June 30 at 6:00 p.m.

If you have any questions about either of these advisory referenda or
the Township Meeting, please feel free to email me.

On behalf of Urbana Citizens for IRV,

Durl Kruse
