More than forty years ago, some students insufficiently socialized into the
conformist culture of the American university established a teaching form to
examine the Vietnam War, the teach-in.

Universities seem to have learnt nothing and forgotten nothing from those days
-- witness recent shameful actions by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and
DePaul University in Chicago. So AWARE ON THE AIR recalls the teach-in with
tonight's program at ten o'clock on cable channel 6, Urbana Public Television.

Unfortunately missing several of our regulars, we soldier on (so to speak) with
a few additions and a chock-full program:

	*Ricky Baldwin on the "Employee Free Choice Act";
	*Randall Cotton on the "Champaign Poverty Referendum";
	*Wayne Johnson on "Ballot Access & Polling the Sheep";
	*Kerris Lee on "Youth & Eduction"; and
	*Ron Szoke on "Human Nature & Common Sense."

In addition, Randall Cotton describes upcoming events in the local peace
calendar from his minutes of the weekly AWARE meeting. (AWARE meets every Sunday
at 5pm in the basement of the old post office in Urbana, to plan local
activities against the US government's criminal war policy; new members and
visitors are welcome.) And yr. obdt. servt. directs traffic and adds some
obiter dicta.

Tonight's show will also be available on <anti-war.net>. And universities will
continue to need contestation.

PS:--

[1] The Main Event, AWARE's monthly anti-war demonstration at Main and Neil
Streets in downtown Champaign, will occur this Saturday, November 1, 2-4pm.

[2] Next week's AWARE ON THE AIR will be cablecast at the usual time (Tuesday at
10pm) but will be recorded Monday (not Tuesday) at 1pm, owing to some civic
event on Tuesday.
