I think this is the same event that Conrad mentioned at last week's AWARE meeting.

       Hope and History: Past and Present Burdens of Race 

   "Leaders make history," C.L.R. James remarked, "but only such history
   as it is possible to make."  Such wisdom matters as we now imagine new
   possibilities for freedom in the U.S.  Drawing on his new book,
   "How Race Survived U.S. History," Roediger captures past moments when
   emancipation seemed imminent and assesses the weight of history on the
   future we can make.
