Campaign Organizers

The Graduate Employees' Organization, AFT Local 6300, at the  
University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, seeks 2 temporary union organizers to  
assist
in membership/activist recruitment and action implementation.   
Organizers
will assist in recruiting additional members, planning and coordinating
GEO events related to contract negotiations, and recruiting and training
union activists and stewards from within the GEO membership.

Required qualifications: Experienced and effective face-to-face  
organizer,
able to hit the ground running. Should work closely with, and help
invigorate, our existing activist base. Should have excellent verbal
communication skills and the ability to work with diverse populations.

Duration and Pay: Both positions are for twelve weeks, between September
8, 2009 and December 1, 2009.  We are hiring for one full time and one
part time position; the full time position will be forty hours per week
and will pay $750.25 per week, and the part time position will be twenty
hours per week and will pay $375 per week.  Total pay will be $9,003.00
for the full time position and $4,500.00 for the part time position.

Additional Qualifications:

Preferred characteristics, skills, and experience: knowledge and
familiarity with universities and graduate employee concerns, strong
time-management skills, initiative, and commitment to the labor  
movement.
