[Peace] Re: Memorial in Champaign-Urbana this Saturday for Dr. Tiller?

Did you all catch DN! today?? Apparently the FBI was notified of two acts of serious vandalism by Dr Tiller's accused murderer (caught on video tape) but did not investigate (although the man had a record and was well known to all to be dangerous). On at least one occasion he super-glued the door locks so that nobody could enter -- and both acts happened w/in a short period -- even a day or two of Tiller's murder. So it seems that the FBI might have prevented the murder had they chosen to act instead of dropping the ball.

I don't think this one is going away any time soon... Here's the link to today's DN!:  http://www.democracynow.org/

If time allows (I'm about to travel overseas), i'd surely like to join in with others to honor this courageous and humane man and to protest his murder.   --mkb

I grew up in Wichita and been reeling from what's happened.
I would be happy to help get the word out, call press out, and cover the event for the Independent Media Center.
Anyone else interested?

I am writing this e-mail in response to an e-mail sent from local artist and reproductive justice advocate Heather Ault, whose e-mail you should be able to access below for reference.

Dear Heather and Everyone,

I, too, was shocked and devastated by the death of Dr. George Tiller and am so happy to know that you're interested in organizing something in his honor. I've copied your e-mail along with this one to Lena Hann, Education Programs Coordinator at Planned Parenthood and would love to help organize a prayer vigil. I haven't heard of something already underway, but perhaps Lena could let us know of whether Planned Parenthood would be a great site for the vigil--and I think it would!

I'll be forwarding this message around and looking forward to organizing something for this Saturday. (I should also mention that a friend of mine and my partner Michael's was just pronounced terminally ill and has only a few short days to live. Because of this, I may be out of town, but I will certainly do all I can to make the vigil happen-- even if I cannot be present.)

Let's open up a dialogue here about where, when, and how we can honor Dr. George Tiller.

In peace,
Rachel Storm

Hello friends,

I'm curious if you might be interested in organizing a prayer vigil this
Saturday at 10am, the time of Dr. Tiller's funeral? Or, perhaps there
are efforts already underway? I'm thinking that outside of Planned
Parenthood might be a great place to hold the event. Rachel has been
working there as an intern, and might have some ideas.

This is a really important time to rally together the reproductive
rights supporters in our community and support our local Planned
Parenthood! Rachel works there as an intern, and I'm sure will have some
ideas. Looking forward to doing what we can do.

Here's a list of other events that happened on Monday night....

And, an article with the time of his funeral...

Looking forward to hearing what you all think. Or, of others people I
can connect with. If you are busy or out of town, please send along your
great ideas!

In solidarity,
Heather
