*On Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 7 pm* there is a study session on the “Use of Force”
policy of Champaign police at city hall in downtown Champaign.

*On Wednesday, Nov. 11 at noon* there will be a youth rally at the Veterans
Memorial at the Champaign County courthouse in downtown Urbana.

Public schools will be closed for Veterans Day. We are taking the
opportunity to give the youth an outlet for expressing their continued sense
of loss over the tragic death of Kiwane Carrington.

>From 10 am to noon, we will meet at the Independent Media Center to make
signs, banners, and other materials for the march. This will also be a time
for people to share their stories toward the creation of a youth-led video
project. The IMC is also in downtown Urbana at the old post office, just
south of the courthouse.

This Veterans Day, remember the Tuskegee Airmen, the famed African American
pilots during World War II, some of whom who were stationed in nearby
Rantoul. Excluded from all-white recreational centers, they came to
Champaign where the Douglass Center was first established for these black
men in uniform. Before black youth wanted to become astronauts, they wanted
to be Tuskegee Airmen.

Don’t forget! Kiwane’s best friend will be in juvenile court Thursday, *Nov.
12 at 11 am* on charges of aggravated resisting a police officer. While the
public is not allowed at the hearing, your presence outside the courtroom
will offer support and show the authorities that we are watching them. Call
State’s Attorney Julia Rietz at 384-3733 and tell her to drop the charges!
