Hello all.

Jeshaun Manning-Carter, who was with Kiwane Carrington when he was killed by
Champaign police, is in court *Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 2pm in courtroom C. *
He's being charged with felony aggravated battery to a "peace" officer and
is represented by Alfred Ivy.
We're planning to show up at the courthouse in downtown Urbana, be present
in the hallway outside, but are not allowed in the courtroom for a juvenile
hearing.

If you haven't already, sign the petition to drop the charges on Jeshaun.
The signatures will be delivered to the State's Attorney Tuesday morning.
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/dropthecharges/Regardless what happens
Tuesday, we will have a rally outside the courthouse to protest the
mistreatment of black youth by the criminal justice system.

According to figures given to us by the State’s Attorney, of 525 juvenile
cases between January 2008 and October 2009, 73% involved blacks.
Of “resisting arrest and/or obstructing justice” charges, 22 out of 24 of
them were given out to black youth, and in the other two cases the race is
unidentified.
When conviction rates are compared, black youth were 12% more likely to be
found guilty of the charges than their white counterparts.
