Since the Peace List has been quiet, let me share an event that
happened earlier today:
The Panel Discussion on Palestine / Israel and the potential for peace
was fantastic!!!!!!

Panelists were:
John Setterlund
Gary Storm
Robert Naiman
David Green

Moderator was: Eric Heim, an undergraduate student at the university of illinois

There were approximately 18 people in the audience.

Brief bios of the panelists:
Retired Pastor John Setterlund
* retired campus minister from the St. Andrew's Lutheran Church at the
University of Illinois (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America)
* volunteered for 2 years at a Lutheran boarding school in Beit Jala,
Palestine, Beit Ibrahim, helping with organ instruction, English
communication, and pastoral assistance with the congregation and
students.
* Arranged a recent trip to the West Bank for 17 people
* Frequent guest on "Keeping the Faith" (AM 580 radio show) on a
variety of topics.
* Has taught a communiveristy course at the YMCA on the topic of
"Living and Working in Palestine"

Beit Jala is a small community adjacent to Bethlehem and Jerusalem in
Palestine. The complex includes a church, a boys boarding home serving
a 50-50 mix of Christian and Muslim children, and a guest house
serving a variety of international visitors. Both Beit Jolla and
Bethlehem are separated from nearby Jerusalem by a 40-foot high
concrete wall that includes checkpoints operated by armed guards with
automatic rifles. Similar check points have been established
throughout the West Bank to limit the movement of Palestinians in the
region.

Robert Naiman is National Coordinator (and/or Policy Director?) of
Just Foreign Policy
* Naiman edits the daily Just Foreign Policy news summary and podcast.
* writes a blog on US foreign policy at Huffington Post
* has worked as a policy analyst and researcher at the Center for
Economic and Policy Research and Public Citizen's Global Trade Watch.
* He has masters degrees in economics and mathematics from the
University of Illinois
* He has studied and worked in the Middle East.
* frequently writes in other places as well
* besides being an activist on Foreign Policy and Labor Rights, Robert
is very good at Chess.

* Ran for City Council office in Urbana
* Grew up in Urbana and was a high school foreign exchange student to
Switzerland
* degrees in Sociology and Education from the University of Illinois
* former faculty member and Dean at Sangamon State University
* life-long environmentalist is working to establish a green
residential community in Missouri.
* Was one of the 17 on the trip that Setterlund organized to the West Bank
* teaches at University of Illinois at Springfield
* recent guest on "Keepin' the Faith" on the topic of "Bethlehem Today"
