*today* Tue 3/30, 7pm, FAR Dorms, UofI campus (near Florida & Lincoln)
Planners Network Urbana Champaign Chapter will be holding a teach in.
Come find out about the current case again Jeshuan Manning and the killing
of 15 year old Kiwane Carrington, champaign youth. A panel of community
members, activist and students will explain the case and also let you know
how you can take against this national trend of police killing of
    minorities.

Planners Network will be hosting several events during the two weeks before
Jeshaun's trial April 13th. Please come out and be informed and get
involved as we continue to take a stand against excessive use of force by
    police against minority citizens.

 Wed 3/31, 7pm, Channing-Murray Foundation
Social Justice Forum: "My Own Four Walls" - Film and Discussion in the chapel

These courageous young people, with parents and without; staying in
shelters, motels, abandoned buildings, doubled-up, living in vans,
substandard trailers, or as "couch surfers" hopping from one fragile
living arrangement to another have one important thing in common: They
all have hopes and dreams just like children who have their own four
walls. More than 30,636 of the children in Illinois experience
homelessness each year. What factors are contributing to this growing
statistic and how can we ameliorate conditions in our own
communities? Free and open to the public. Light refreshments served.

Thu 4/1 7pm, UofI Allen Hall Main Lounge, 1005 W. Gregory, UofI campus

Rich Whitney, the Green Party candidate for Illinois Governor,
will be in Urbana on April 1st. He will be talking about his plans
to empower the economy, environment, and people of Illinois.
In 2006, Whitney took an unprecedented 10% of the vote in the
Illinois gubernatorial election, establishing the Green Party
as a political party across the state and easing ballot access requirements.
Whitney recently released a detailed plan to fix the deficit and bolster our economy.

The event will start with a lecture and discussion in the Allen Hall main
lounge at 7pm and move to the Red Herring at 9pm for continued discussion
   and light refreshments.

   *also*
Thu 4/1, 7:30pm, 3rd floor of Levis Faculty Center,
			    919 W. Illinois, UofI campus
	CAS/Millercomm lecture

JUAN MENDEZ, Law Professor, American University

"Human Rights Trials and Truth Commissions:
What The U.S. Can Learn from Latin America"

In the wake of a steady stream of revelations regarding
the treatment of prisoners in US military custody, their
representatives and the American public have been engaged in
debates over the value, justice and dangers of investigating
and/or prosecuting current and former US officials for torture and
other human rights abuses. Should the current US administration
decide to undertake such investigations, it would be following
in the footsteps of other nations of the Americas including
Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru. The lecture will shed light
      and lessons from these experiences.
