eBlackChampaign-Urbana Campus-Community Symposium

November 5-6, 2010, 9 AM-5PM
Location: November 5 - Graduate School of Library and Information
Science, 501 E. Daniel; November 6 - Douglas Annex, Douglas Park, 804
N 5th St, Champaign
Cost: Free

Purpose: Bring together individuals and institutions from across
campus and across the Champaign-Urbana community to disucss: a)
campus-community interactions in the historical African-American
community of Champaign-Urbana; b) digital technology in the
transformation of community life; c) create a network of campus and
community individuals/institutions interested in working together to
end digital inequalities in Champaign-Urbana through coordinated
volunteering, research and service

Activities:
Friday: Roundtable discussions on Community Engagement/University
Research involving local African-Americans and Award ceremony for
campus and community Difference Makers in the lives of local
African-Americans. Release of a 200 page book entitled "Community
Engagement @ Illinois" bringing together documentation of over 40
campus engagement and research projects involving local
African-Americans
Saturday: Roundtable discussions on digital technology and social
services, education, religious institutions, community groups and
community media/memory, focusing especially on issues facing local
African-Americans, but also touching on issues facing Latinos and the
entire Champaign-Urbana population.

whatever portion of the symposium interested individuals can attend.
