[Peace] Jihad, Pakistan, and Afghanistan lecture this evening at Champaign Public Library

The AWARE community may be interested in the following public lecture, to be
held tonight at the Champaign Public Library.

Dr. Sohail Abbas is a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Global Studies at
the University of Illinois, and has been hosted by the Program in Arms
Control, Disarmament, and International Security (ACDIS) during the summer
of 2011.  His talk, entitled, "What Motivated Jihadis in Pakistan to Fight
Coalition Forces in Afghanistan Just After Sept. 11, 2001?" will be held in
Pavillion Room C at the Champaign Public Library on Tuesday, August 16 at
7:00 PM.

He is the author of the book "Probing the Jihadi Mindset" (2007), which
includes case studies and demographic profiles of 517 Pakistani jihadis who
were arrested in Afghanistan and repatriated to jails in Pakistan.  His PhD
is in Psychology from Universite de Toulouse, France, 1983.  He is a
Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, though he is also in clinical practice
in Islamabad, Pakistan, and has taught at several institutions in Pakistan,
France, and Canada.

The lecture is co-sponsored by the Center for Global Studies, ACDIS, and the
Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (CSAMES).
