Blood for Oil: Egypt, Israel and U.S. Intervention in the Middle East
Monday, February 7, 5:30 PM
Greg Hall R. 215 (southwest side of the main quad)

The Egyptian people are setting an inspiring example for those
everywhere who are struggling for a better world. Hundreds of
thousands of people have been confronting the hated U.S.-backed
Mubarak regime for weeks now. But how could such a hated regime arise
in a country with a history of nationalist rebellion? Why has the U.S.
been so eager to funnel billions of dollars in military aid to
Mubarak, to the state of Israel and to various hated leaders in the
Arab world? And what are the broad strategic aims of the U.S. in the
region?

Come join us for this important discussion on the following readings:

Tahrir Tuesday on the Quad: Rally in Solidarity with Egypt
Tuesday, Feb. 8, noon
UIUC's main quad, south side of the Illini Union
Over the past two weeks, millions of Egyptians have inspired people
all over the world with their courageous struggle to overthrow the
hated U.S.-backed Mubarak regime. The heart of this popular revolution
has been Cairo's Tahrir Square, where hundreds of thousands of
protesters have congregated day after day to beat back pro-Mubarak
thugs and to call for justice, dignity and democracy.

The Anti-War, Anti-Racism Effort (AWARE), Council of American-Islamic
Relations (CAIR), International Socialist Organization (ISO) and an ad
hoc coalition of Egyptian students and allies invite all UIUC students
and community members to join us as we bring a slice of Tahrir Square
to the UIUC's main quad.

We will be rallying to express our solidarity with the Egyptian people
and demand the end of U.S. aid to the Mubarak regime. Join us!

Tunisia and Egypt: Revolt in the Arab World
Monday, February 14, 5:30 PM
Gregory Hall R. 215 (southwest side of main quad)
First, a popular uprising toppled hated Tunisian dictator Zine el
Abidine Ben Ali. Now, millions of Egyptians are withstanding brutal
repression by the U.S.-backed regime of Hosni Mubarak to demand
dignity, justice and democracy. For the first time in many years,
ordinary people are posing an alternative to U.S. domination of the
Middle East and are taking control of their own destiny. Come join
activists to discuss what the revolt shaking the region means for all
those who would like to see a better world.
