Folks,

Tonight at 8 pm, Nancy Fraser of the New School in NY, will be giving  
a talk on "Marketization, Social Protection, Emancipation:Re-reading  
Karl Polanyi in the 21st Century."
Karl Polanyi's book, the Great Transformation, written just after  
WWII, is one of the most important texts for understanding the  
devastation wrought be free markets in the late 19th and early 20th  
centuries.  It is a must read for people who want to understand  
what's going on today from a historical perspective.

Nancy Fraser is a socialist/feminist, and in my mind one of the  
deepest socialist thinkers today.  I urge everyone to take advantage  
of listening to her talk and engaging with her in the Q and A.

The talk is on the 3rd Floor of the Levis Faculty Center, across the  
street from the Illinois Street Residence hall, just east of the  
Krannert Center for the Performing Arts..
