Nada Alwadi will be a
Unit One/Allen Hall Guest-in-Residence Sept 30 – Oct 5. All of her events are open to the public and take place in Allen Hall, 1005 W. Gregory Drive, Urbana.
 
Nada Alwadi
is a Bahraini journalist, writer, and researcher who writes about politics and human rights issues in the Middle East. Alwadi covered the recent crackdown in Bahrain
 for several international media outlets including USA Today. In 2011, she was one of the recipients of the first James Lawson Award for Nonviolent Achievement by the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict. Alwadi co-founded the Bahraini Press
 Association which seeks to defend local and international journalists who have been attacked or targeted by the Bahraini authorities.

Bahraini journalist Nada Alwadi talks about her experiences covering a Middle Eastern uprising and being detained by the Bahraini authorities while a number of her fellow Bahraini journalists were murdered, tortured, or sentenced to long prison terms by the
 regime.
