AWARE on the Air is an unrehearsed panel discussion of the war that the US government is conducting - and expanding - throughout the Greater Middle East. The war may be said to have begun with the US attack on Afghanistan on October 6, 2001, but today our government is threatening, invading, and occupying countries from Libya to Pakistan, and from central Asia to central Africa - a vast circle with a more than 2,000-mile radius, sometimes called the Greater Middle East: the US military calls it "Central Command."

AWARE on the Air is presented by members and friends of AWARE, the Anti-War Anti-Racism Effort of Champaign-Urbana, a local peace group, made up of people who believe that if Americans knew what the US government is doing in their name, they would be appalled. The program is cablecast by Urbana Public Television on Tuesday evenings at 10pm on channels 6 & 99 in C-U - and livestreamed at http://urbanapublictelevision.org/livestream. (It's often repeated throughout the week on UPTV - and archived on AWARE's fb page - search for "AWARE.")

We record AWARE on the Air at noon on Tuesdays in the UPTV studios - the Urbana City Council chambers. All who want to participate - or just sit in on the panel discussion - are welcome to attend.

The US government claims that it is waging war to stop terrorism and protect civilians - but we can see that the US is killing civilians and creating terrorists. The real reason for the war was succinctly stated at the United Nations last week (not by a representative of the US): “The American government wants to expand its hegemony over the center of energy in the world, which is the Middle East.” (Not because we need the gas and oil - the US imports very little oil from the Mideast, no more than we export from the US - but control of Mideast energy resources gives the US an unparalleled advantage over our economic rivals in Europe and Asia.)

So join us on "Terror Tuesday" - the administration's term for the day that the president adds names to his "Kill List" (also their term). David Swanson of <warisacrime.org> explains:

President Obama keeps a list of "nominees" for murder [by drone strike] and holds meetings on Tuesdays to pick the winners. We can ask him who got the nod [this week]. The list includes adults and children, men and women, boys and girls, Americans and non-Americans. See: New York Times, May 29, 2012.
