*health care and hunger disparities in the community*

Dr. Irfan Ahmad from Avicenna Community Health Center and Donna Camp from
Wesley Evening Food Pantry address discrepancies in health care and hunger
that affects the Champaign-Urbana community at large.

April 19th, 2013 | 12 Noon | Latzer Hall | University YMCA

Both faith based leaders will discuss the issues of health care and hunger
disparities that are a growing problem in our country today. Both leaders
strive to spread awareness about these issues and are active in developing
new solutions to decipher these problems. The talk will challenge the
audience to take action in the Champaign Urbana area and other communities
that are experiencing these problems.

Dr. Irfan Ahmad is the President of Avicenna Community Health Center, a
center committed to serving those who do not have health insurance or those
who are under-insured with their medical needs or questions. The Center is
also dedicated to educating the community about health issues that
ultimately affect everyone. The Center provides counseling, medical
referrals, medical screenings and one on consolations with doctors.
Additionally,
Donna Camp, the Director of Wesley Evening Food Pantry will discuss the
roots of hunger and the work her organization does to combat these
problems. Wesley Evening Food Pantry provides groceries to individuals
whose food stamp checks may not be enough to accommodate all their needs.
The Food Pantry also provides health care, education and human services to
residences once a month in an effort to develop the community so that one
day no one goes hungry.

This noontime talk is a part of the Friday Forum Spring 2013 lecture
series,
"Faith in Action," featuring speakers from across the spectrum of faith
traditions that are compelled by their faith to engage in bold and creative
forms of action. All lecture are free and open to the public. Lunch is
served from the Y eatery during lectures: $6.50/3.00 student.
