Am I supposed to be impressed that you asked Abueleish about the murder of other Palestinians rather than about the murder of his daughters by Israeli Jews?

Yaaqov, you are welcome to plan another event at CPL or UFL and discuss these issues publicly, as part of my campaign, or yours. You can invite local Zionists, non-Zionists, anti-Zionists, and Palestinians. Or just you and me. I think I've made myself pretty clear about where I stand on all these issues. You can look up my articles on the internet, just google my name with Champaign, Urbana, Israel, Palestine--not a big secret. You can also go on the NewsAccess search engine through the campus library and bring up all my News-Gazette (and NYT) letters and articles. Do I have to serve them to you on a neat platter?

If you were the least bit genuinely concerned about a just peace in I/P, your actions locally would have long since demonstrated that. But you persist in "moral equivalence" between oppressor and oppressed, in order to hide your own clear lack of interest in assertively supporting the Palestinian cause, always reserving the final complaint against Israel's Palestinian victims.

The difference between you and me, as far as I can tell, is that I'm concerned with the consequences of my government's actions, and the consequences of institutionalized racism in Jewish cultural/political/religious/educational life. That's why I protested the "Israel Studies Program" on campus, funded by the Lobby in Chicago and inviting only Jews--thus racist to the core, and supported by the late Chancellor Richard Herman, and uncommented upon in our community except by me.

The panel at CPL was regarding Islamophobia in Jewish and American culture. I believe my remarks provided the basis for this article:
http://mondoweiss.net/2010/09/a-higher-racism-the-new-justifications-for-islamophobia-and-pre-emptive-violence.html

I look forward to your planning an event to publicly discuss these issues in front of the community. At this point, I am completely finished with this conversation.

>Indeed, the meeting I referred to was at CPL a panel you were on. My specific question to Dr Abu Al-Aish at UFL, was about Vittorio Arrigoniand his assassination by Hamas. The level of your purposeful misquoting my statements at that and other meetings critically disappoints me. If this is what an academic does when getting into politics, don't we have such politicians already

>Your ethnic profiling of me is indicative of the depth you would apply to someone challenging your standpoint. You would think, it's your campaign related need to tarnish one's image and trivialize her/his comments.  After all, you are trying so hard to show you are concerned and involved with your potential voters (yet in the face of disagreements, you do whatever it takes to defend your ticket, it's a mere technicality to pass over a hurdle).   Did you really need to embed your reply with offensive remarks, character assassination attempts?  isn’t Rush Limbaugh an excellent spokesperson for doing that already?
>And you haven’t answered yet my question: what you considered Palestinians (?) other than by implying they are those people that Israelis have been been horrible with.  Mind you, you propose no change about that,
