[Peace] county jail and Champaign County Board meetings / yes, they are talking about a new jail

Champaign County Board: The Jail is back on the agenda. Come to show the
Board we are still watching.
The Sheriff will be making a presentation 6:30-Turn out to hear this!! Do
they want to try again on the jail?

Meeting of the Facilities Committee of the Champaign County Board
Below is the link to a News-Gazette article is giving Facilities chair Stan
James center stage for his call to people to come to the County Board and
speak in favor of building a new jail. No mention of the campaign against
the jail . The jail builders are getting on track. We will have to be ready
to counter.  Next board meeting where this will be on the agenda is Wednesday,
April 16 at 6:30 p.m.

The article basically asks "Why hasn't the new jail been started?" and
doesn't ask or answer, "Why haven't programs been started yet?"* and why
does the Facilities chair think that building cages is a financially
responsible thing to do?

*programs that keep mentally ill out of jail cells (and, if they get there,
that they get treatment), programs that keep non-violent offenders out of
jail while they await trial so they don't loose their jobs and damage their
families even more. Not to mention programs to prevent crime from happening
in the first place.
